There are people who pass through our lives, transient, good for a while, valuable as a memory and an experience, but were never meant to be permanent or lasting.
And then there are souls like ours, which are drawn to ours by a magnetism fueled by fate and magic and the order of things. And these kindred spirits may come and they may go, traveling on their life path whilst we sojourn along on ours, but they will continue to resurface, reappear, and reconnect with us.
They are transcendent and they are eternal. Friends and mentors who challenge us, engage us, embrace us and uplift us. Loved ones to whom we know we can turn in crisis and in celebration both. They are ever in our thoughts, and they are able to pick up conversation after months and even years apart.
The universe will throw us together and pull us apart, but we have a lasting connection, a persistent and nearly unbreakable bond.
And today I am grateful for this truth. Blessed by this inevitability. And comforted by this recurring phenomenon in my life.
Catching up with our dear friend last night after years apart made my heart sing and my imagination hum! And as I reach a place in my life that is so much nearer permanence, so much closer to fertile soil for roots and routine? I yearn for the close connection of those whom I cherish an love.
Those scattered to the breeze and off along the winding, wending paths of their own unique and varied lives.
I want to hold them close and keep them near.
And get better at phone calls and lunch dates and all that.
I love my chosen family so very much. And want to do right by them.
